New shell
Posted by in Uncategorized on December 12, 2009
Here’s the new shell sitting on the trailer. I delivered it to Enhanced Performance ready for the winter build. It’s a bit bare at the moment. More pics to follow.
It’s a 1.8 LX Sierra Sapphire shell with a weld-in cage, powder coated rear beam, a few bits and pieces like fire extinguisher plumping and brake lines, and not a lot else. The build will take a few weeks.

Stripping the shell
Posted by in Uncategorized on November 28, 2009
In preparation for the winter re-shell of the race car Luke and I stripped 90% of the bits from the race car. Engine, box, diff, coilovers, brakes, seat, steering wheel, intercooler, turbo, exhaust will all be used on the new shell which will be built by Enhanced Performance in Sussex. I bought the shell that I’ll use in 2010 about a year ago and stored it. Here are the pics of the strip down. The yellow shell is on Ebay.

Brands Hatch – The Meldrew – November
Posted by in Uncategorized on November 8, 2009
Hmmm, a day of racing at Brands Hatch in the midst of the British version of Hurrican Katrina. It was cold and wet and the poor car didn’t like it one bit. It refused to start, it’s battery didn’t seem to want to charge and it took a lot of coaxing to get it ready to race. Here’s the car looking moody in the paddock:
Qualifying was wet, and the car felt like it was down on power. I managed a 1.03.4 for sixth fastest. The Meldrew is a race based on handicapping and I ended up 25th on the grid. Here’s a lonesome gloomy qualifying shot:
Luke from Enhanced Performance turned up for some live mapping. He’d forgotten to reset something to do with the reading of the 36-1 trigger wheel that tells the ECU what the engine’s position is. Once he’d adjusted that the car went very well.
The race was like driving through a river. Starting 25th, and in staggered waves 10 seconds apart I was a long way behind the front runners and the safety car came out for about five laps in the middle of a 15 lap race. I still managed to finish 11th and got second fastest lap of the race.
Driving through high speed corners while aquaplaning is not a nice experience but the car felt great – powerful and very neutral handling so it was easy to throw around in the wet.
My fastest lap during the race was 1.05.4 (while driving through a river!). All timings from the TSL Timing site.
